IIM Mumbai CAT Cut-off 2026
For the flagship MBA 2026–28, IIM Mumbai officially specifies the following minimum CAT thresholds:
| Category | VARC | DILR | QA | Overall |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Open / General | 80 | 80 | 75 | 85 |
| NC-OBC | 70 | 65 | 65 | 75 |
| EWS | 70 | 65 | 65 | 75 |
| SC | 65 | 60 | 60 | 70 |
| ST | 55 | 55 | 55 | 65 |
| PwD | 45 | 45 | 45 | 55 |
Is 85 Percentile Enough for IIM Mumbai?
No — not for most General-category candidates.
IIM Mumbai explicitly states that the actual sectional and overall cut-offs may be considerably higher than these minimum thresholds, depending on the number of applicants called for PI.
Therefore:
Official General minimum
85 percentile overall
is very different from:
Practical competitive target
97–99+ percentile
for a General-category applicant.
The latter is a planning recommendation rather than an official cut-off.
Recommended CAT Target
For MBA4U readers:
General / Open Category
97–99+ percentile
is a more sensible target.
For candidates with:
- weaker academics,
- little profile differentiation, or
- highly competitive engineering backgrounds,
aiming closer to:
99+ percentile
is preferable.
IIM Mumbai MBA Eligibility
For MBA 2026–28, candidates require:
General / EWS / NC-OBC
A recognised Bachelor’s degree with at least:
50% marks or equivalent CGPA
SC / ST / PwD
Minimum:
45%
The bachelor’s qualification must normally represent at least three years of study after 10+2.
Can Final-Year Students Apply?
Yes.
Final-year students and candidates awaiting results can apply.
For the 2026–28 batch, candidates had to complete all degree requirements by 30 June 2026, with final documentation required within IIM Mumbai’s prescribed timeline.
MBA-OSCM Eligibility

Candidates require either:
Engineering / Technology degree
or qualifying degrees such as:
- M.Sc. Mathematics
- M.Sc. Statistics
- qualifying Maths & Computing dual degree
- qualifying BS/B.Tech Economics
with the required minimum marks.
This programme is therefore not open to every undergraduate discipline.
IIM Mumbai Admission Process
The flagship MBA selection process broadly involves:
Stage 1 – CAT 2025
Stage 2 – Eligibility and Cut-off Screening
Stage 3 – Personal Interview Shortlist
Stage 4 – Personal Interview
Stage 5 – Final Composite Score
Stage 6 – Category-wise Merit List
Stage 1 – CAT
Candidates must:
- appear for CAT 2025,
- clear the overall percentile requirement,
- clear all sectional requirements, and
- satisfy graduation eligibility.
Stage 2 – PI Shortlisting
IIM Mumbai states that candidates clearing Stage I are shortlisted for Personal Interview primarily on:
CAT 2025 score
along with sectional cut-offs and reservation category.
This makes CAT particularly important for obtaining the interview call.
IIM Mumbai Final Selection Weightage
For the MBA 2026–28 batch, the official final-selection weights are:
| Component | Weight |
|---|---|
| CAT 2025 Score | 60% |
| Personal Interview | 20% |
| Academic Performance & Work Experience | 20% |
| Total | 100% |

The 20% profile component considers:
- Class 10 marks

- Work experience
IIM Mumbai uses different academic-score bands for different Class 12 streams and graduation categories to account for varying marking patterns.
Work Experience
Work experience is:
Not compulsory
for the regular MBA.
Fresh graduates can apply.
However, professional experience forms part of the Academic Performance & Work Experience Score, which contributes 20% to final selection.
IIM Mumbai Specialisations / Academic Areas
The flagship MBA provides broad management exposure.
Students can build expertise in areas such as:
- Operations Management
- Supply Chain Management
- Finance

IIM Mumbai: MBA4U Admission Perspective
One misleading interpretation students should avoid is:
“IIM Mumbai CAT cut-off is only 85 percentile.”
Yes, the official minimum General-category threshold for MBA 2026–28 is:
Overall – 85
VARC – 80
DILR – 80
QA – 75
but IIM Mumbai explicitly warns that the actual interview cut-offs may be substantially higher.
For a General-category candidate:
97–99+ CAT percentile should be the serious target.
Candidates should not prepare merely to clear 85.
Why CAT Is Especially Important at IIM Mumbai
IIM Mumbai’s final-selection formula assigns:
60% to CAT
which is substantial.
The remaining weight is:
PI – 20%
Academic Performance & Work Experience – 20%
This makes IIM Mumbai relatively attractive for students who can produce an exceptionally strong CAT result.
But CAT Still Does Not Guarantee Admission
Even a very strong CAT score must be supported by:
- academics,
- work experience where applicable,
- and Personal Interview performance.
A candidate with:
99.5 CAT + weak PI
can still lose ground against a candidate with a slightly lower CAT score but much stronger interview/profile performance.

MBA4U Final Take
IIM Mumbai has rapidly become one of the most attractive CAT-based management institutes in India by combining the six-decade NITIE legacy with the IIM brand.
Its strongest differentiators are:
- NIRF Management 2025 Rank #6
- Exceptional Operations & Supply Chain legacy
- Mumbai corporate location
- Three specialised full-time MBA programmes
- ₹31.40 LPA average CTC in 2026
- ₹71.40 LPA highest CTC
- ₹47.50 LPA Top-10% average
- 208 recruiters
- 179 PPOs
- Strong Consulting, Finance, Marketing and Analytics opportunities
- Fully residential programme
- Alumni-supported scholarships.
For a General-category applicant, however, the published 85 percentile CAT minimum should never be treated as the practical admission cut-off. IIM Mumbai itself states that actual interview cut-offs can be considerably higher.
A sensible MBA4U recommendation is therefore:
Target 97–99+ CAT percentile
and maintain balanced sectionals.
For students specifically targeting Operations, Supply Chain, Consulting, Analytics, Manufacturing, Sustainability or technology-linked management careers, IIM Mumbai deserves to be placed among the highest-priority B-schools in India.
Profile updated: August 2026.
