JIPMAT: Eligibility, Syllabus, Exam Pattern, Admission, Cutoff & Colleges

For students who want to enter an IIM immediately after Class 12, JIPMAT is one of the most important management entrance examinations in India.

JIPMAT stands for Joint Integrated Programme in Management Admission Test. It is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to the Five-Year Integrated Programme in Management offered by:

  • IIM Jammu

  • IIM Bodh Gaya

Unlike IPMAT Indore and IPMAT Rohtak, which are conducted separately by individual IIMs, JIPMAT provides students with an opportunity to use one entrance examination for admission to two IIMs.

For the 2026 admission cycle, NTA conducted JIPMAT on 7 June 2026 in Computer-Based Test mode. The JIPMAT 2026 result was declared on 25 June 2026.

This complete guide explains the JIPMAT admission process, eligibility, syllabus, exam pattern, marking scheme, cutoffs, IIM Jammu selection criteria, fees, seats, participating colleges and preparation strategy.

What is JIPMAT?

JIPMAT is a national-level management aptitude test conducted for students seeking admission to an integrated management programme immediately after Class 12.

The examination tests candidates in three broad areas:

  1. Quantitative Aptitude

  2. Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning

  3. Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension

Successful candidates can use their JIPMAT score for the admission processes of IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya.

The basic route is:

Class 12 → JIPMAT → IIM Jammu/IIM Bodh Gaya IPM → Integrated Management Education

What is the IIM Jammu Integrated Programme in Management?

IIM Jammu offers a Five-Year Integrated Programme in Management, commonly known as IPM.

The programme is designed for students completing Class 12 who want an early start in business and management education.

The first three years broadly provide an undergraduate foundation, while the final two years are aligned with the postgraduate management programme structure.

Students are exposed to a combination of:

  • Economics

  • Mathematics

  • Statistics

  • Psychology

  • Sociology

  • Business Communication

  • Information Technology

  • Accounting

  • Finance

  • Marketing

  • Operations

  • Strategy

  • Organisational Behaviour

  • Human Resource Management

  • Entrepreneurship

  • Business Analytics

The programme is intended to develop managerial ability, analytical thinking, communication skills and leadership capability at an early stage.

JIPMAT Eligibility Criteria

Students need to understand that there are effectively two levels of eligibility:

  1. Eligibility to appear for JIPMAT through NTA

  2. Institute-specific eligibility for IIM Jammu or IIM Bodh Gaya

The second is particularly important because the two IIMs do not have exactly identical requirements.

IIM Jammu JIPMAT Eligibility 2026

For admission to IIM Jammu’s IPM 2026–31 batch, candidates were required to satisfy the following conditions.

Class 12 Requirement

Candidates should have:

  • passed Class 12/HSC or equivalent in 2024 or 2025, or

  • been appearing for Class 12 in 2026.

Students likely to complete Class 12 by 31 July 2026 were also eligible subject to meeting the final requirements.

Class 10 Requirement

The candidate should have passed:

Class 10/SSC or equivalent in 2022 or later.

Minimum Percentage for IIM Jammu IPM

General60%60%
EWS60%60%
NC-OBC60%60%
SC55%55%
ST55%55%
PwD55%55%

IIM Jammu requires at least 60% in Classes 10 and 12, with a relaxation to 55% for SC, ST and PwD candidates.

Is Mathematics Compulsory for JIPMAT?

For IIM Jammu IPM, the 2026 admission policy did not prescribe Mathematics in Class 12 as a compulsory eligibility condition.

Therefore, students from:

  • Commerce

  • Science

  • Arts/Humanities

can apply, provided they satisfy the academic eligibility criteria.

However, JIPMAT contains a significant Quantitative Aptitude section, so students without Mathematics should begin quantitative preparation early.

Can Commerce Students Apply for JIPMAT?

Yes.

Commerce students can appear for JIPMAT.

Commerce students with or without Mathematics may apply for IIM Jammu IPM subject to the prevailing eligibility conditions.

Can Arts Students Appear for JIPMAT?

Yes.

Students from Arts or Humanities backgrounds can apply.

IIM Jammu explicitly encourages diversity across academic backgrounds.

Can Science Students Appear for JIPMAT?

Yes.

Science students are fully eligible subject to meeting the minimum marks and year-of-passing requirements.

Is There an Age Limit for JIPMAT?

Unlike some other undergraduate management entrance examinations, the JIPMAT/IIM Jammu 2026 eligibility was framed mainly around the year of passing Class 10 and Class 12, rather than a separately stated age cutoff in the main admission policy.

Students should therefore always check the latest admission policy rather than relying on an assumed age limit.

JIPMAT Exam Pattern

JIPMAT is relatively straightforward in structure compared with IPMAT Indore.

The examination contains:

100 Multiple Choice Questions

with a total duration of:

150 minutes

or:

2 hours 30 minutes

JIPMAT Exam Pattern Table

SectionQuestionsMarks
Quantitative Aptitude33132
Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning33132
Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension34136
Total100400

The exam is held in Computer-Based Test mode and the paper is in English. NTA prescribed a total duration of 150 minutes for JIPMAT 2026.

Is There a Sectional Time Limit in JIPMAT?

No separate sectional time limit is prescribed in the standard JIPMAT exam pattern.

Candidates can therefore manage the overall 150 minutes among the three sections according to their strengths.

This is different from IPMAT Indore, where sections are separately timed.

JIPMAT Marking Scheme

Each JIPMAT question carries:

Correct Answer

+4 marks

Incorrect Answer

-1 mark

Unattempted Question

0 marks

Maximum score:

400 marks

Since every incorrect response costs one mark, random guessing can significantly reduce a candidate’s score.

JIPMAT Syllabus

NTA provides a broad syllabus rather than an exhaustive chapter-by-chapter list.

The three major sections are:

  1. Quantitative Aptitude

  2. Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning

  3. Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension

IIM Jammu states that the Quantitative Aptitude section tests understanding and application of mathematical concepts broadly up to Class 10 level.

Is JIPMAT Easier than IPMAT Indore?

In general, JIPMAT Quantitative Aptitude is considered less mathematically demanding than IPMAT Indore.

JIPMAT Quant is broadly based on concepts up to Class 10 level, whereas IPMAT Indore frequently tests deeper quantitative aptitude and has a separate Short Answer section.

However, JIPMAT should not be considered an easy examination.

Competition remains strong because admission is available to only a limited number of candidates at the participating IIMs.

JIPMAT Admission Process for IIM Jammu

This is one of the most important sections for students.

Getting a high JIPMAT score does not mean admission is automatic.

For the IIM Jammu IPM 2026–31 batch, the admission process was based on:

  1. JIPMAT performance

  2. Class 10 marks

  3. Class 12 marks

  4. Category-wise sectional cutoffs

  5. Final composite merit list

Most importantly:

There was no Personal Interview in IIM Jammu’s domestic IPM selection process.

IIM Jammu’s FAQ specifically states that there is no interview/PI-WAT component in the selection process.

IIM Jammu JIPMAT 2026 Selection Weightage

For the 2026–31 batch:

ComponentWeightage
JIPMAT Percentile70%
Class 10 Marks15%
Class 12 Marks15%
Total100%

This is important.

A student with excellent JIPMAT performance but weaker Class 10 and 12 marks may have a lower composite score than another candidate with a similar JIPMAT percentile and stronger academic records.

IIM Jammu JIPMAT Sectional Cutoffs 2026

Candidates needed to satisfy minimum percentile requirements in each JIPMAT section.

CategoryQuantitative AptitudeDILRVerbal Ability
General505050
EWS353535
NC-OBC353535
SC303030
ST252525
PwD252525

These are sectional qualifying percentiles, not the eventual final admission cutoff.

Important: Qualifying Cutoff vs Final Admission Cutoff

Students often confuse these two.

For example:

General sectional cutoff = 50 percentile

does not mean a General category candidate with around 50 percentile is likely to receive admission.

It only means the candidate crosses one basic eligibility threshold for consideration.

Actual admission depends on:

  • JIPMAT percentile

  • Class 10 score

  • Class 12 score

  • category

  • number of seats

  • applicant pool

  • final composite score.

Students targeting IIM Jammu should therefore aim substantially higher than the minimum qualifying percentile.

IIM Jammu IPM Seats

For the 2026–31 batch, IIM Jammu stated that the IPM batch size was expected to be around:

140 students

The institute follows Government of India reservation policy.

IIM Jammu IPM Fees

For the 2026–31 batch, IIM Jammu published the following fee structure for resident Indian students.

The institute also requires a:

₹50,000 refundable caution deposit

along with Semester I fees.

Mess expenses are charged separately according to actuals.

Does IIM Jammu Provide Hostel Accommodation?

Yes.

The first three years’ published fee includes hostel-related academic/non-academic expenses.

IIM Jammu states that accommodation is generally arranged on a sharing basis during the first three IPM years.

Single-room accommodation may be provided in Years 4 and 5 subject to availability.

IIM Jammu Offer Acceptance Fee

Candidates receiving admission offers for the 2026 IPM batch were required to pay:

₹50,000

as the offer acceptance amount.

The amount is adjusted against Semester I fees after admission.

Colleges Accepting JIPMAT Score

For students researching JIPMAT, the most important point is:

The principal colleges officially using JIPMAT are:

1. IIM Jammu

Programme: Five-Year Integrated Programme in Management

Location: Jammu

2026 Approximate Intake: 140

Selection Weightage:

  • JIPMAT percentile – 70%

  • Class 10 – 15%

  • Class 12 – 15%

2. IIM Bodh Gaya

Programme: Five-Year Integrated Programme in Management

Location: Bodh Gaya, Bihar

2026 Approximate Intake: 120

IIM Bodh Gaya’s 2026 policy stated that approximately 120 seats were planned for the IPM batch.

IIM Bodh Gaya Eligibility 2026

IIM Bodh Gaya’s eligibility differs slightly from IIM Jammu.

For 2026:

Class 12

Candidates should have:

  • passed Class 12 in 2025, or

  • been appearing in 2026.

Class 10

Candidates should have passed Class 10:

in 2023 or later.

IIM Bodh Gaya JIPMAT Sectional Requirement

For its 2026 merit-list eligibility, IIM Bodh Gaya required candidates to score at least the applicable:

30 sectional percentile threshold

according to its admission policy framework.

Students should always check the latest year’s admission policy because cutoff methodology can change.

IIM Bodh Gaya IPM Seats

The institute stated an approximate intake of:

120 students

for the IPM 2026–31 batch.

Its admission policy also contains provisions designed to promote gender diversity while maintaining merit.

Are There Any Other Colleges Accepting JIPMAT?

Students should distinguish between two things:

Official JIPMAT participating IIMs

These are:

  • IIM Jammu

  • IIM Bodh Gaya

NTA explicitly conducts JIPMAT on behalf of these institutes.

Other programmes that may independently consider JIPMAT scores

Some institutes may choose to recognise current or previous JIPMAT scores for specific programmes.

For example, IIM Jammu’s eBBA (Hons.) admission process has accepted JIPMAT alongside other entrance routes such as JEE Main, CUET and its own admission test.

However, such programmes should not be confused with the two principal five-year IPM programmes for which NTA conducts JIPMAT.

JIPMAT 2026 Application Fee

For JIPMAT 2026, NTA charged:

CategoryApplication Fee
General / OBC-NCL₹2,200
SC / ST / EWS / PwD / Third Gender₹1,100
Candidates Outside India₹11,000

Applicable bank/service charges and GST could be additional.

Does JIPMAT Registration Automatically Apply to IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya?

Students should follow both:

  • NTA’s JIPMAT application instructions, and

  • the respective admission instructions issued by IIM Jammu/IIM Bodh Gaya.

NTA’s role is to conduct the examination and send the scores to the participating IIMs.

The institutes themselves prepare their final admission lists according to their respective policies.

JIPMAT Result

NTA publishes the JIPMAT scorecard on its official examination portal.

For 2026:

Exam: 7 June 2026

Result: 25 June 2026

The score is valid only for the relevant admission year and cannot ordinarily be carried forward to another admission cycle.

JIPMAT 2026 Competition Level

JIPMAT 2026 saw:

13,876 registered candidates

and:

11,527 candidates appeared

for the examination.

The examination was held across 81 centres in 61 cities, including one city outside India.

With only a few hundred seats across the principal participating IIMs, students should not interpret the moderate-looking syllabus as meaning admissions are easy.

What is a Good Score in JIPMAT?

There is no permanent “safe score.”

The effective admission threshold changes according to:

  • difficulty level,

  • category,

  • number of candidates,

  • institute admission policy,

  • board examination marks,

  • final composite score.

For IIM Jammu in 2026, JIPMAT percentile accounted for 70% of the final composite score, while Classes 10 and 12 contributed 15% each.

Therefore, students should target a very strong overall and sectional percentile, not merely the published minimum sectional cutoff.

JIPMAT Preparation Strategy

1. Complete Class 10 Mathematics First

Since JIPMAT Quant broadly tests concepts up to Class 10 Mathematics, your fundamentals must be very strong.

Prioritise:

  • Arithmetic

  • Algebra

  • Geometry

  • Number System

2. Improve Calculation Speed

Learn to quickly calculate:

  • percentages,

  • fractions,

  • ratios,

  • squares,

  • cubes,

  • approximations.

Speed is important because you have:

100 questions in 150 minutes

or an average of:

90 seconds per question

before allowing time for review.

3. Practise Data Interpretation Daily

Solve at least one or two DI sets regularly involving:

  • tables,

  • graphs,

  • percentages,

  • ratios.

4. Build Logical Reasoning Accuracy

Practise:

  • puzzles,

  • arrangements,

  • series,

  • coding,

  • syllogisms,

  • blood relations.

Do not spend excessive time on one difficult puzzle.

5. Read English Every Day

For VARC, read:

  • editorials,

  • business articles,

  • opinion columns,

  • essays,

  • quality magazines.

Reading consistently improves both speed and comprehension.

6. Build Vocabulary

Record unfamiliar words with:

  • meaning,

  • synonym,

  • antonym,

  • contextual sentence.

7. Solve Previous JIPMAT Papers

Previous-year papers help students understand:

  • question style,

  • topic weight,

  • difficulty,

  • exam speed requirements.

Try to solve recent papers under actual exam conditions.

8. Take Full-Length Mock Tests

A good mock should replicate:

100 questions

150 minutes

with:

+4/-1 marking

Do not practise only chapter-wise questions close to the examination.

9. Analyse Every Mock Test

After the test, classify mistakes into:

  • Concept error

  • Calculation error

  • Reading mistake

  • Guessing error

  • Time-management error

  • Question-selection error

This improves performance faster than simply increasing the number of mocks.

Suggested JIPMAT Time Management

Since there is no separate sectional timer, students can customise their strategy.

One possible approach is:

SectionSuggested Time
Quantitative Aptitude50–55 minutes
DILR45–50 minutes
VARC35–40 minutes
Review5–10 minutes

This should not be treated as a fixed formula.

Students strong in English, for example, may complete VARC significantly faster and use the saved time for Quantitative Aptitude.

Common Mistakes JIPMAT Aspirants Should Avoid

Confusing JIPMAT with IPMAT

They are different exams.

  • JIPMAT → IIM Jammu + IIM Bodh Gaya

  • IPMAT Indore → Conducted by IIM Indore

  • IPMAT Rohtak → Conducted by IIM Rohtak

Looking Only at Overall Score

IIM Jammu uses sectional percentile cutoffs, so a weak performance in one section can become a problem.

Ignoring Class 10 and 12 Marks

At IIM Jammu, academics carry:

30% combined weightage

for the 2026 composite score.

Preparing Quant at IPMAT Indore Level Only

Advanced preparation is useful, but first make sure you can solve Class 10-level questions quickly and accurately.

Over-Attempting Because Questions Look Easy

With negative marking:

four careless wrong answers effectively erase one correct answer.

Accuracy matters.

Advantages of JIPMAT

One Entrance Exam for Two IIMs

Students can target IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya through one common test.

Entry After Class 12

Students begin management education without first completing a separate bachelor’s programme.

No PI at IIM Jammu under 2026 Policy

The IIM Jammu domestic selection process relied on JIPMAT and academics rather than a Personal Interview.

Balanced Exam Pattern

The exam tests:

  • Mathematics

  • Reasoning

  • Data Interpretation

  • English

rather than concentrating heavily on only one area.

Relatively Accessible Quantitative Syllabus

JIPMAT Quantitative Aptitude is broadly based on Class 10-level concepts.

Points Students Should Consider Before Choosing IPM

Programme Duration

The programme lasts:

5 years

Students should be reasonably confident about their interest in management.

Cost

Integrated management programmes at IIMs involve a substantial financial commitment.

Competition

Although the academic syllabus appears manageable, the number of available seats is limited.

Early Career Decision

Students commit to a management-oriented track immediately after Class 12.

Who Should Consider JIPMAT?

JIPMAT is particularly suitable for students who:

  • are interested in management after Class 12,

MBA4U Recommendation

JIPMAT is one of the most valuable entrance examinations for students who are genuinely considering management education after Class 12.

Compared with IPMAT Indore, the syllabus can appear more approachable, particularly in Quantitative Aptitude. But students should not underestimate the examination.

Competition is significant, and at IIM Jammu, your Class 10 and Class 12 marks also influence the final selection.

For JIPMAT preparation:

  1. Build strong Class 10 Mathematics fundamentals.

  2. Develop calculation speed.

  3. Practise Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation daily.

  4. Improve reading comprehension and vocabulary.

  5. Take full-length 150-minute mock tests.

  6. Avoid unnecessary guesses because of negative marking.

  7. Monitor sectional performance.

  8. Check the eligibility of IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya separately.

  9. Consider appearing for IPMAT Indore and IPMAT Rohtak as additional options.

For JIPMAT 2027 aspirants, use the 2026 exam pattern and syllabus as your present preparation base, but verify eligibility, application dates, fees, admission policies and selection criteria once the official 2027 notification is released.
