Explore top B Schools under 10 Lakhs in India with fees, CAT/CMAT/CET cut-offs, eligibility, entrance exams and official college links.

Choosing an MBA college does not necessarily mean accepting a ₹20–30 lakh fee bill.
India has several respected management institutes, central universities, IITs, NITs and government-supported B-schools where the MBA or equivalent management programme can still be completed for less than approximately ₹10 lakh in academic fees. A few of them cost considerably less than ₹5 lakh.
For students searching for Top B Schools under Rs 10 Lakhs in India, the real question should therefore not be simply, “Which MBA college has the lowest fee?” A better question is:
Which affordable B-school gives me the right combination of reputation, admission competitiveness, curriculum, peer group, location, placement opportunities and return on investment?
That distinction matters. A ₹2 lakh MBA is not automatically better than an ₹8 lakh MBA, just as an expensive ₹25 lakh PGDM is not automatically superior to a lower-fee university programme.
This guide brings together notable affordable management institutes for the 2026-27 admission environment, including colleges appearing in the NIRF Management rankings and other established institutions that MBA aspirants frequently consider.
NIRF 2025, for example, placed Aligarh Muslim University at Rank 69, Panjab University at Rank 92 and ABV-IIITM Gwalior at Rank 93 in Management. University of Hyderabad also appeared in the 101–125 rank band.
Important: Fees, admission rules, entrance examinations and cut-offs can change from one admission cycle to another. Where an institution does not officially announce a fixed cut-off percentile, this article does not present an estimated number as an official cut-off. Always verify the latest admission notification before applying.
The following table concentrates on recognised, established or otherwise relevant management institutions where the regular MBA/MMS/PGDM programme falls broadly within the ₹10 lakh academic-cost range based on the latest information that could be verified.

Important fee and cut-off note
The values above should be treated as 2026-oriented reference figures, not permanent fee quotations.
Institutes can separately charge for:
- hostel accommodation;
- mess;
- refundable security deposits;
- university registration;
- student activities;
- examination fees;
- insurance;
- alumni charges; and
- other campus facilities.
Similarly, the phrase “percentile required” does not mean admission is guaranteed at that percentile.
At many institutes, the final admission decision considers academics, interview performance, work experience, reservation category, gender/academic diversity and other factors in addition to the entrance-test score.
Best B-Schools Under ₹10 Lakhs: Which Ones Deserve Special Attention?
A long college table is useful for discovery. It should not, however, become your final preference order.
The following institutes deserve closer consideration for different reasons.
1. FMS Delhi – The Obvious High-ROI Target
FMS Delhi remains one of the first institutions students should examine when the objective is top-level management education without a ₹20–25 lakh tuition bill.
For the MBA 2026–28 programme, FMS stated that the semester fee was approximately ₹60,818, although the University of Delhi can revise it.
That makes the academic fee extraordinarily low compared with most leading Indian B-schools.
There is, however, a major catch: competition is extremely intense.
A student should not look at FMS merely as a “cheap MBA college”. It should be treated as a highly competitive CAT target where a very strong CAT performance and profile are usually necessary.
Who should target FMS?
Students who:
- are aiming very high in CAT;
- want an excellent cost-to-opportunity ratio;
- are comfortable studying in a university rather than a fully residential standalone B-school environment; and
- want access to Delhi NCR’s corporate ecosystem.
2. IIT Kanpur – Strong Brand Within a Controlled Budget
IIT Kanpur’s Department of Management Sciences provides another attractive combination of institutional reputation and comparatively moderate cost.
For the 2026–28 batch, the institute officially required CAT 2025 overall percentile of at least 80 for General, EWS and OBC-NCL applicants, together with academic requirements. The admission process also considers other components, so 80 percentile should be understood as an eligibility/shortlisting threshold—not an admission guarantee.
The programme can be particularly interesting to engineering, technology and quantitatively oriented graduates who value the IIT ecosystem.
3. IIT (ISM) Dhanbad – One of the Most Interesting Affordable IIT MBAs
IIT (ISM) Dhanbad deserves more attention than it receives from many CAT aspirants.
Its 2026 admission brochure lists MBA semester fees for UR/OBC/EWS students at approximately:
- Semester I – ₹1,16,400
- Semester II – ₹86,700
- Semester III – ₹95,700
- Semester IV – ₹86,700
Mess charges were listed separately at ₹19,500 per semester, and the institute specifically stated that the semester fee was under revision.
That keeps the MBA comfortably inside the ₹10 lakh academic-cost range.
IIT (ISM) accepts a valid CAT score for its MBA and MBA Business Analytics programmes.
For a student who wants an IIT MBA but cannot stretch the budget into the ₹15–25 lakh range, this deserves a place on the shortlist.
4. NIT Trichy – A Serious Option Beyond the IIM/IIT Conversation
NIT Tiruchirappalli’s Department of Management Studies accepts CAT scores for MBA admission. The final selection considers CAT performance, interview, academics and professional work experience.
The institute’s FAQ has historically placed the approximate annual institute fee at around ₹1.09 lakh, with hostel and mess taking the annual cost to roughly ₹1.59 lakh; students should check the latest 2026 fee notification because fees can change.
For students concentrating only on IIMs and private PGDM institutes, NIT Trichy can therefore be an overlooked value option.
5. JBIMS Mumbai – Low Fee, Exceptionally Difficult Admission
JBIMS should be approached differently from most colleges in this article.
It may fall comfortably below the ₹10 lakh fee limit, but getting a seat is extremely difficult.
The programme operates through Maharashtra’s centralised admission framework. Candidates competing through MAH MBA CET and applicable All India routes generally face extremely strong closing merit.
The correct strategy is therefore not:
“JBIMS costs less, so I will keep it as a safe option.”
It is almost the opposite.
For most serious candidates, JBIMS is a dream/high-reach option despite its affordable fee.
6. Delhi School of Economics / Faculty of Commerce & Business – Excellent for Budget-Conscious CAT Aspirants
The University of Delhi’s Faculty of Commerce & Business offers:
- MBA International Business;
- MBA Human Resource Development; and
- MBA Business Analytics.
For 2026 admissions, candidates had to apply separately to the department and use their CAT 2025 performance in the selection process.
Because its academic fee is far below most private B-schools, this becomes an especially relevant application for students wanting a recognised Delhi-based management programme without taking a large education loan.
7. BHU – Established University MBA at a Modest Cost
Banaras Hindu University offers MBA and MBA International Business through its management faculty.
Its published admission information confirms the importance of CAT in selection for the main MBA/MBA-IB programmes, along with academic performance and subsequent selection components.
BHU can be particularly attractive if your priorities are:
- established university brand;
- manageable fee;
- conventional two-year MBA;
- large alumni ecosystem; and
- avoiding a heavy education loan.
8. UBS Chandigarh – A College Students Should Not Ignore Because of Its Fee
University Business School at Panjab University is another institution where the tuition burden can be surprisingly low relative to the history and visibility of the school.
For the 2026 admission cycle, UBS published CAT-category shortlists and conducted GD/PI for its MBA programmes.
The fee advantage makes UBS worth evaluating particularly carefully on ROI.
However, programme fees can vary among UBS’s different MBA specialisations, so candidates should verify the particular programme rather than applying one figure to every course.
9. Anna University – Particularly Relevant for Tamil Nadu Students
Anna University’s MBA admissions are linked to TANCET and Tamil Nadu MBA counselling.
TANCET 2026 was officially scheduled for 9 May 2026, and the examination covers MBA admissions to university departments and participating institutions across Tamil Nadu.
Students should therefore evaluate Anna University primarily in terms of:
TANCET score → counselling rank → category → seat availability
rather than trying to translate the process into a CAT-style percentile benchmark.
For Tamil Nadu candidates seeking an affordable public-university MBA, it is an important option.
10. AMU – Multiple MBA Options at Affordable Fees
Aligarh Muslim University’s Faculty of Management Studies & Research offers several management programmes, including:
- MBA;
- MBA International Business;
- MBA Islamic Banking & Finance;
- MBA Hospital Administration; and
- MBA programmes through some AMU centres.
These programmes are listed in the official AMU Guide to Admissions 2026–27.
AMU was also ranked 69th in NIRF Management 2025.
Students should pay close attention to the particular programme’s entrance mechanism because AMU admissions should not automatically be interpreted through CAT cut-offs.
11. University of Hyderabad – Affordable Central University MBA
University of Hyderabad’s MBA General admission page for 2026–28 specified:
- minimum three-year bachelor’s degree;
- 60% eligibility;
- CAT 2025, MAT 2025 or CMAT 2026 for shortlisting; and
- GD/interview in the admission process.
That multiple-exam route makes UoH particularly useful for students whose CAT score may not be their strongest result.
The University of Hyderabad also appeared in the NIRF 2025 Management 101–125 rank band.
12. MANAGE Hyderabad – Excellent Niche Option for Agribusiness
MANAGE should not be compared directly with a general MBA unless you genuinely want agribusiness.
Its two-year PGDM in Agri Business Management is AICTE-recognised, and the institute published a total 2026–28 fee of ₹9.75 lakh, comprising tuition, boarding and lodging, and other listed charges.
For an eligible student interested in:
- food and agriculture companies;
- rural markets;
- agri-input industries;
- commodity businesses;
- agricultural finance; or
- agritech,
MANAGE may make far more sense than choosing a general MBA simply because that college has a familiar name.
13. ICAR-NAARM Hyderabad – Another Specialised Agribusiness Option
ICAR-NAARM’s PGDM-ABM deserves similar consideration.
The published programme cost for its recent batch was around ₹8.84 lakh, including tuition, operating charges, boarding, lodging and caution deposit.
The admission process accepts CAT and/or CMAT, and the official disclosure assigns 35% weight to the entrance score, with the remainder distributed across analytical writing, GD, interview, academics, work experience and diversity.
Again, this is best suited to candidates with an agriculture or allied academic background; the eligibility rules are narrower than those of a general MBA.
Why Do Some Good MBA Colleges Charge So Much Less?
Students sometimes become suspicious when they see an MBA programme priced at ₹1–5 lakh while another B-school charges ₹20 lakh.
Lower fee does not necessarily indicate lower academic quality.
Several affordable institutions on this list are:
- central universities;
- state universities;
- Institutes of National Importance;
- publicly funded institutions; or
- government-supported institutes.
Their financial structure is different from that of a standalone private business school.
Private PGDM institutes often have to recover a substantially larger share of expenditure through student fees. Government-supported universities can operate under a different funding model.
That is why comparing B-schools purely through fees can be misleading.
Should You Choose the Cheapest MBA College?
Not necessarily.
Consider two hypothetical offers:
College A
- Fee: ₹1.5 lakh
- Limited recruiter diversity
- Location far from your preferred industry
- Weak fit with your career target
College B
- Fee: ₹8 lakh
- Stronger corporate exposure
- Better curriculum for your specialisation
- Better internship opportunities
- Recruiters aligned with your target role
College B might justify the additional ₹6.5 lakh.
Conversely, paying ₹18–20 lakh merely because a private institution markets itself aggressively would not make sense if you have a strong ₹3–6 lakh public-institute option with similar career opportunities.
The objective should therefore be value, not simply the lowest fee.
How to Compare B-Schools Under ₹10 Lakhs
Before accepting an MBA admission offer, compare the following factors.
1. Total Cost, Not Advertised Tuition
Calculate:
Tuition + university charges + hostel + mess + deposits + laptop/travel + living expenses + interest on education loan
A college advertising ₹8 lakh tuition may ultimately cost ₹11–12 lakh if residential expenses are substantial.
Meanwhile, a ₹3 lakh programme in your home city may cost much less overall.
2. Placement Report Quality
Do not judge placements only by the highest salary.
Look for:
- average or mean CTC;
- median CTC;
- batch size;
- number of recruiters;
- placement percentage;
- role diversity;
- sector distribution;
- PPO/PPI numbers; and
- whether the report is audited or officially published.
A ₹40 lakh “highest package” earned by one student tells you very little about what the average MBA student experienced.
3. Entrance Difficulty
Several low-fee institutions are actually more difficult to enter than expensive private colleges.
FMS and JBIMS are obvious examples.
Low tuition therefore does not mean easy admission.
Build your application list with three levels:
Dream colleges – very difficult based on your expected entrance score.
Realistic colleges – competitive but achievable.
Backup colleges – where your profile and expected score provide a reasonable admission possibility.
Do not make your entire shortlist out of high-risk colleges merely because their ROI looks excellent.
4. Specialisation and Career Goal
Suppose you want agribusiness.
MANAGE or NAARM could be more logical than a generic MBA institute.
If you want analytics and technology-heavy management roles, IIT-based programmes or MBA Business Analytics options may deserve greater weight.
If you want HR, DU’s MBA HRD deserves examination.
The “best B-school” therefore changes with the student’s career objective.
5. Location
Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai and other major economic centres can provide advantages for:
- internships;
- guest sessions;
- live projects;
- corporate competitions;
- networking; and
- recruiter access.
Location is not everything, but it should be included in your decision.
Best B-Schools Under ₹10 Lakhs by Student Type
For students targeting exceptional ROI
Consider:
FMS Delhi, JBIMS, DSE/DU, UBS Chandigarh, BHU and PUMBA.
Their relatively low academic fees can dramatically reduce the financial pressure of an MBA.
For students wanting an IIT/NIT ecosystem
Consider:
IIT Kanpur, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, NIT Trichy, NIT Calicut and NIT Silchar.
For agriculture and allied graduates
Consider:
MANAGE Hyderabad and ICAR-NAARM Hyderabad.
For students relying on exams other than CAT
Look closely at institutions accepting:
MAH MBA CET, TANCET, CMAT, MAT, university entrance examinations and other programme-specific routes.
Examples include JBIMS/SIMSREE/PUMBA through the Maharashtra admission system, Anna University through TANCET, AMU’s admission process and JMI’s programme-specific entrance route.
Is an MBA Under ₹10 Lakhs Worth It in 2026-27?
Yes—provided you select the institution carefully.
The best affordable MBA programmes can offer one major financial advantage: lower downside risk.
Suppose Student A spends ₹4 lakh on an MBA while Student B borrows ₹22 lakh.
Even if both receive similar early-career salaries, Student A may have:
- smaller EMI commitments;
- more freedom to change jobs;
- greater ability to save;
- less pressure to accept the first available job; and
- more flexibility to start a business or pursue further studies.
This does not mean that every inexpensive MBA is a good investment.
A cheap MBA with weak learning, minimal corporate engagement and poor career outcomes can still be poor value.
The correct calculation is:
Educational quality + career opportunities + realistic placement outcomes relative to total cost.
Mistakes to Avoid While Searching for MBA Colleges Under ₹10 Lakhs
Choosing only on fee
₹80,000 versus ₹4 lakh should not decide your entire career.
Treating an online cut-off as guaranteed admission
A website saying “college accepts 80 percentile” does not mean an applicant with exactly 80 percentile will receive an offer.
Confusing eligibility cut-off with actual competitiveness
IIT Kanpur, for example, officially listed an 80-percentile CAT threshold for specified categories in its 2026 process. That is an initial eligibility/shortlisting condition—not a promise of admission at 80 percentile.
Ignoring category-specific rules
Cut-offs, fees and seat allocation can differ for General, EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD and other categories.
Using last year’s fee without checking
Several institutions revise fees annually.
Looking only at average salary
Always examine median salary, batch size and role quality too.
Ignoring programme differences
MBA, MMS, PGDM-ABM, MBA Business Analytics and MBA International Business are not identical products.
How to Build Your 2027 MBA Application Strategy
Students preparing during 2026 for the next MBA intake should avoid depending on one examination.
A practical combination might be:
Route 1: CAT
Target institutions such as:
- FMS Delhi
- DU Faculty of Commerce & Business
- IIT Kanpur
- IIT (ISM) Dhanbad
- NIT Trichy
- NIT Calicut
- UBS Chandigarh
- BHU
Route 2: CMAT/MAT
These can provide additional opportunities at institutions accepting multiple examinations.
Route 3: MAH MBA CET
Important for Maharashtra institutions including JBIMS, SIMSREE and PUMBA through the applicable admission framework.
Route 4: TANCET
Important for Anna University and participating Tamil Nadu MBA colleges.
Route 5: Institution-specific examinations
Useful for institutions such as JMI, AMU and universities operating their own admission process.
The objective is to create multiple admission pathways rather than betting everything on a single CAT result.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which is the best B-school under ₹10 lakh in India?
There is no universal answer. FMS Delhi stands out for its combination of reputation and very low academic fee, while JBIMS is another exceptional-value public option. IIT Kanpur, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, DU/DSE, UBS Chandigarh, BHU and selected NITs are also worth evaluating depending on entrance score and career goals.
Can I get a good MBA for under ₹5 lakh?
Yes. Several prominent public/university management programmes remain below or around this range, including FMS Delhi, DU’s Faculty of Commerce & Business, UBS Chandigarh, BHU, AMU, Anna University and several other university departments.
Are hostel charges included in the ₹10 lakh limit?
Not necessarily. In this article the primary comparison is based on programme/academic cost unless the institution itself publishes a combined residential programme fee. MANAGE and NAARM, for example, publish costs that include specified boarding/lodging components.
Which affordable B-schools accept CAT?
Examples include FMS Delhi, DU Faculty of Commerce & Business, UBS Chandigarh, BHU, IIT Kanpur, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, NIT Trichy, NIT Calicut and ABV-IIITM Gwalior.
Which B-schools under ₹10 lakh accept exams other than CAT?
Depending on the admission cycle, possibilities include University of Hyderabad, NIT Silchar, BIT Mesra, NAARM, Anna University, JBIMS, SIMSREE, PUMBA, JMI and AMU through different examinations or admission mechanisms.
Is 80 CAT percentile enough for a good B-school under ₹10 lakh?
It can open some opportunities, but it should not be treated as sufficient for every college. Some institutions have much stronger competition. IIT Kanpur officially used 80 percentile as the minimum for certain categories in the 2026–28 process, but final selection involved additional criteria.
Does a lower MBA fee mean lower placement?
No. Fees and placements are not directly proportional. Several government-supported institutes charge relatively modest fees because their funding model differs from that of private B-schools.
Final Thoughts: Affordable Does Not Mean Compromise
For many families, spending ₹20–30 lakh on an MBA is a major financial decision. The good news is that Indian management education still offers credible alternatives.
Students willing to research beyond the most advertised private B-schools can find excellent opportunities through:
- central universities;
- public universities;
- IITs;
- NITs;
- government management institutes; and
- specialised institutions.
The strongest approach is therefore not to ask:
“Which is the cheapest MBA college?”
Ask instead:
“Which college gives me the best career opportunity for the total amount I will invest?”
For one student, that answer might be FMS Delhi. For another, it may be IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, NIT Trichy, UBS Chandigarh, BHU, JBIMS, MANAGE or Anna University.
Compare the admission difficulty, programme structure, placement evidence, location, specialisation and total financial commitment before making the final choice.
And remember: fees, programmes, entrance tests, cut-offs and eligibility rules can change every year. Always check the latest official admission notification before applying or paying any fee.
